Congratulations on completing your degree with a 2:1! Can you tell us a little bit about your qualification and how you achieved it?
Thank you – I’m really happy!
Well, I started at Bisley back in 2017 and came on board as a maintenance apprentice, doing both mechanical and electrical engineering. I worked across a range of departments within Bisley’s Shop Floor in order to gain as much experience as possible. The apprenticeship lasted 4 years and was completed with the Newport and District Group Training Association, where I was awarded a Merit, which allowed me to go ahead and complete a degree.
In August this year, I was awarded a 2:1 in Mechanical Manufacturing in Engineering. It took me three years to complete at the UWTSD in Swansea. To complete the course, I studied multiple modules, including six sigma, green belt, thermofluids and control, advance processes and materials, and plant and asset engineering.
Having completed the degree, I feel that I have so much more knowledge and experience of Bisley’s operating systems, which enables me to be able to help to troubleshoot or resolve any issues more quickly, meaning better productivity and efficiency.
Why did you want to complete a degree? How important is it to your work at Bisley?
I’ve always enjoyed engineering and studying and so I felt that it was the next natural step for me in further developing my skills. The knowledge and skillset that I now have allows me to feel more confident to do my job, to advise, and to help others.
How instrumental is the support from companies, like Bisley, when it comes to completing a degree?
I’m extremely fortunate to have had Bisley’s continuous support throughout my apprenticeship and degree. The team’s constant encouragement allowed me concentrate on completing my studies.
What are your aims for the future at work? What would you like to achieve?
In the future, I’d like to go ahead and complete a Masters degree and work towards a managerial position, but right now, my focus is on my work, my development, and harnessing my craft.
What do you enjoy most about working at Bisley?
I really enjoy working at Bisley – every day is different, and the work is extremely rewarding. Being able to fix a piece of equipment to allow our team to be able to continue with their work is great! I also work with some really great people, who are good leaders and are always happy to engage and help me when needed.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’ve very recently bought my first home and so I’m spending a lot of time building furniture and putting everything in their place at the moment! I also really enjoy music, particularly rock, and like heading to shows and tours with my friends.
