Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC (University Technical College) offers a new concept in education for 14-19 year olds. It provides opportunities to study, full time, technically-oriented courses with an emphasis on aviation engineering. Opened in September 2014 with Bryan Berry as principal, Heathrow UTC combines practical, hands-on learning with national curriculum requirements.
To deliver work-related learning experiences it’s important that the study environment is vibrant and reflects what the students will experience when they begin their engineering careers.John Cowles, Engineering Technician at Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC said “One of my first tasks at the college was to design and implement a way to help students quickly and easily access the wide variety of tools and materials required for them to learn about the various engineering processes. I found that Bisley had the answer”.The Bisley Mobile Tool Cabinet was at the heart of the solution because of its versatility. The variety of drawer sizes means space for heavy duty and specialist tools that can be stored, fully labelled, alongside the more familiar kits.Students spend a lot of time making products that require many consumables such as nuts and bolts; the Multi Bin Tool Cabinet makes organising and accessing these items easy, helping the trainees complete tasks efficiently. To complement these cabinets, Mini Workshop Cupboards have been fitted in every room. These are mainly used to stow study aids such as technical manuals and tools to allow work on small items to continue away from
the main engineering workshops.John concludes “I am very happy with all the products that have been supplied by Bisley. They are all multi-purpose and durable which makes them perfect for a busy engineering environment”.
